Our first six months

Yesterday we feasted Giovanni’s 6th month and this is so important because it’s another turning step in his life. Seems that from 6 month everything will just change: solid foods, sitting down, change the position in the stroller etc.
Since so much is waiting for him it’s necessary to look back for a while. This baby boy survived(despite our mistakes) the most critical months and this is already a great achievement! I have to say that this has been the most fantastic 6 months I’ve ever lived. Of course many things were difficult and one of them was when we discovered that my milk was finishing. Actually I didn’t feel failed or not adequate as a mother; I was so sorry that my poor baby was desperately crying in the night because was starving. From that moment feeding has become a serious issue for me and sometimes I was acting as a crazy woman.
I have been very lucky because Giovanni is one of those children that cry very rarely, sleep the whole night (we had only one month of late night sleeping) and has always been in good health (except for vaccination but that is another thing) and this really helped. I think the most amazing thing, by the way, has been starting to know him. Yes because at the beginning you have this small human being in your arms and you don’t know what to do; you fear that if you do something it can harm him. And this is because you don’t know him; babies have a strong personality and Giovanni has always showed us his. He always smiles, cries when afraid and slowly we started to understand what he likes and what makes him comfortable. Every day is a big surprise; I always thought that up to 6 month babies where really boring because they have very few capabilities (in fact it’s really difficult to entertain a 0-6 month baby that’s a story for another day) and I have changed my mind.
Now we started this new adventure of 6+ and we started with important things: solid food and a walk with the stroller facing the world (and not mama anymore). With solid fruit I cooked an apple for a few minutes, added some water and when it became soft, I blended it and stored in a sterilized glass jar. How did it go? It was really funny! First Giovanni did strange faces, I think the new taste made him a bit confused, then he eat ¾ of the apple (which I think is a big achievement for first serious introduction to solid food) and started to play with the spoon. We took a walk in the neighborhood with our stroller (roads are really muddy, I love our 4x4) and he was facing the road. He was so interested in what he saw that he wanted to sit properly like saying if you treat me like a big boy I’ve to live it! It was amazing seeing the wonder in his eyes at everything that was around him.
Now I can’t wait to see what will come next!
