April Diary

Hallo Friends!

I know it has been a while since I wrote. April has been a really full month and I decided to live it as much as possible, doing what had to be done. April has been the month of discoveries, one of those months where you find yourself at a turning point. And I decided to turn the corner, or to jump in the new adventure.

What happened is that I've been called by a local school (near my home) to prepare some activities for children during a day camp (on April in Kenya the schools are closed). At the beginning around 40 children (maximum 60) were expected and suddenly they were more than 100. The theme of the camp was 'Following an adult I discover my talents'. Thanks to Sizzix train box die we have been able to make a treasure box, cutting out recycled cartons. Then we decorated it with flowers, butterflies and hearts. So why was it a place where to discover something? Imagine yourself (and eventually your husband while your child crawls here and there on cartons scraps) die cutting more than 200 pieces of boxes, assemble some of them, die cut embellishments and explain to classes of 25/30 children how to assemble them. I tell you: you get crazy if you don't do this for something more than the payment or the success of the activity. This is what happened to me: at a certain point I had to really ask myself why I was doing all this, why I want to put all the care possible in what I was doing. Yes because I made more boxes such that any child may have his box (even the one who got bored and abandoned my class to play football), that each and every child could have his/her special box where to put all his treasure, his/her discoveries. The smiles of the children was more then enough to me.

This experience made me think really a lot about all the things I was making, that many times mixed styles, ideas found around (I get lost in internet) and very focused on the sell. Yes I've to sell of course but the journey can't stop there. Can't finish just in a nice product that has to be sold. It can be like this but what I desire about it is much more. So I started a new way of making things (maybe who follow me on facebook or instagram has seen something), in some way to find a style and to make things that speak about myself and that help me to understand more who I'm.

I've learned that I've to put the maximum of care I'm able to put on what I do, with a sense of reality because I can't do everything I've in my crazy mind. I'm a mother and a wife and my son and husband are my sources of energy and inspiration so first I've to take care of them.
