Hallo people!
Here we are with our first Holidays Special DIYs. Just a brief introduction to our DIYs and then we’ll be ready to start crafting!!
We believe that spending quality time with children is a great opportunity for parents (and houshelps, grandparents, aunties and so on) to built a strong relationship with the children. Kids need adults who guide them in discovering their talents and their passions. We have experienced that crafting can be one of the way to interact positively with the reality, discovering it and discovering ourselves. To craft you don’t need very complicated tools or materials. Most of the times we have everything (or almost ) in our houses. This is why we have decided to propose you simple DIYs, utilizing things you use daily.
So let’s start with the shopping list. Every Saturday we’ll post on our facebook page the materials we’ll use for the DIYs so check on it to know what you’ll need.

Mosaic

The mosaic is the art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces to create an image. You can use glass, clay or paper to do it. Here is what we did:
First of all choose some pages from your magazine. The pages we are looking for must have a dominant color that after we’ll use to compose our picture.

Once you have chosen your pages start to cut them in small parts. They don’t have to be perfect, if you don’t like your child using scissors they can just tear it up. Divide the colors so that will be easier to identify them.

Now you can start to stick with glue the mosaic tassels on your blank paper.
You can decide what to do. If you want to divide the paper in different areas following a color scheme (this can be useful for toddlers and preschooler to exercise on colors having fun)

or you can draw a picture and then your kid will color it with the mosaic tassels. For big children they can compose shapes and images with tassels. They will have so much fun!!

Card Making

As you know us of Riko Love Crafts love card making and your children can enjoy it making super personalized cards. First of all they need to choose some image they really like from the magazine. Don’t forget to decide who to gift your card. When we make something for someone it comes out really beautiful.

Once they have chosen help them to cut them properly and start to play on the paper to decide where to put your pictures. Once you decided stick them with glue.
What we did was for the first example to use the cover of the magazine, cut the edges to give a wave effect and stick the images we have chosen.

For the second card we folded in half an A4 paper. We cut and folded one of the half (you’ll have an A5 size card, if you want it bigger just fold in an half the paper). We used a cute picture of a flower and some mosaic tassels that remained from the previous
project.

Montage

With montage you assemble different pieces of the same material (so paper with paper, fabric with fabric etc.) to create a new picture. With montage you can really enjoy making masterpieces without drawing, using just papers.
Choose some more pictures you love from the magazine. This time choose even funny shapes or strange photos, we are sure that you’ll put together giving to them a new meaning.

What you can do then is to challenge your artistic abilities. Stick the pictures on a paper and draw them. Use your creativity to change colors, shapes and make something new out of them. For small children this can be a good exercise in drawing from the reality.

Something else you can make is a new picture just gluing you subjects on a paper giving them a new meaning. This activity will be good for children from class 2.

Paper Flowers

We love paper flowers, they can change the look of a room, can embellish a notebook or your cards.
Making them out of magazines is simple with our free printable pattern. If you don’t have a printer don’t worry. Download the pattern, apply a blank paper on top of the screen of your computer and trace them.

Once you have your pattern cut it out and trace the image on colored pages of the magazine. You will get a nice result even on the written parts, just try to see.

Once you have traced cut them out. Put a bit of glue in the center of the flower and stick to it another flower. With some scrap paper make a small ball that you’ll glue on top of the flower.

If you want to give a 3D effect crease them. Now use your creativity to make fun projects with these flowers. You can make garlands, glue them to a card, create a bookmark, make a picture to hang in your room. Store your pattern paper in a safe place so that you will be able to use again and again!
Origami boats

Origami is a very fun activity that allow children to exercise fine motor skills. Then they will create (mostly with the help of an adult) 3D shapes out of paper and this will make them enthusiastic.
First of all choose some very colored paper from your magazine and cut them out.

Now follow the instructions and you’ll have your boat.

To have a fleet make many boats and cut your papers in different sizes (it has to be a rectangle).

Once your children will make the boats they can play, creating adventures and using all their imaginations. If you want you can draw some characters (pirates, sailors etc) for them to create stories and adventures.
Here we finish with our DIYs for this week. We hope you will have fun with these ideas. If you want send us your crafts and we’ll share to our facebook page and website.
Don’t forget our Craft Kits for Kids. We’ll see you on FRIDAY for the new KIT, on SATURDAY for the shopping list and on next SUNDAY for new DIYs.
Happy Crafting!!!
